I had been wanting to do a photoshoot at a library for a while but I kept mulling it over in my head: what could I do that would make my photos stand out from the rest? Don’t get me wrong, I love traditional library shots and I certainly took plenty of those. I was just looking for a little extra infusion of artistic fun.

I called one of my favorite models (Isa) and asked if she’d bring her little sister (Mimi) along. They were so perfect! We met on the second floor of our local library and right off the top they said the three magic words, “whatever you want.” I was in heaven. When I brought out the crystal ball Mimi was like “cool!” And off we went.

When I got home, I had the biggest smile on my face. My husband said I need to schedule a “just for fun” photo shoot once a month for therapy. I think I agree. The “whatever you want” statement doesn’t always work in a paid session. A client may say that, but then end up disappointed because they did indeed had something specific in their head they were hoping for. I always insist they spill it. Tell me what you really want and then I’ll figure out how to get out of it what I want as well.

Now, there will be those fellow photogs who will say I have to stick to my guns. “They’re hiring you based on your work!” I get it. BUT, the people in front of my lens influence my work. I’m still learning so there is that.

Isa & Mimi were my muses for the day. A breath of fresh air. Just what I needed. There is a world inside our lens and this series represents that for me. Can you see it? It’s “In Plain Sight.”
