Sweet 16

Amor turned 16 this year. Like with everything else around the world, the celebration was postponed. Yesterday I got to photograph her as she gets ready to optimistically finally celebrate everything beautiful about her young life. I’ve seen her flourish into the confident, hard working, intelligent girl that she is and…I say that a lot about the kids that have grown up around me, don’t I? I’m lucky! What can I say and I absolutely mean it. Anyway, back to the photoshoot: she picked a spot from one of my previous sessions. We had to do a little sneaking around as the park was closed to the public (shhhh). We’ve all been there my photographer friends, right? Or am I the only rule breaker around here? I’m actually kidding. I get so nervous! I would much rather not break any rules but, there we were. I did bring the hubby along as a lookout (haha).

I am still working on editing and I’ve noticed that since the move to the Nikon Z6 my style seems to be evolving to the more colorful side of the spectrum. I’ve always been a lover of the moodier, more muted tones in the past but, I just can’t get over these beautiful, vibrant colors! Still, I can still see a hint of the before me here and there. I am not one to put myself in a box (in general) - whether in music, teaching or in this case photography editing styles, but I continue to “find myself” at every evolution. I don’t tend to feel as if it isn’t me just because something happens to be different from what I’ve done before. If that makes any sense.

I hope you and most importantly Amor love these images as much as I do. I don’t get to do sessions as often as I’d like right now so this one was just what I needed to hold me over for a while.

Question: whatever your profession, how has technology changed the way you see things, the way you work? Do you switch to the new enthusiastically or do you bid your time? Just curious.
