Si Ella Supiera…
I come from a family of musicians, teachers, poets, artists, intellectuals, free-spirits…I guess we have a little bit of everything. This young woman, a girl in my eyes still, is the daughter of a first cousin. She calls me Tia out of respect. She just turned 15 and is living in a world in which I imagine it is even more difficult to find out who you really are than ever before - trapped inside the same 4 walls (#covid) for who knows how much longer. Not that anyone has any right to know who they really are at 15. I’m almost 45 and most days I have no clue! But I digress. Of all the things we all are within our family, passionate seems to be the thread that unites us…or divides us. We tend to be boisterous except, not my cousin and definitely not Maia (pictured). Oh but when she opens up her mouth to tell a story or a poem…it’s like a cascade is flowing from her heart.
Sometimes I worry that she doesn’t realize how beautiful she is and so with this photoshoot, I hoped to give her but a glimpse. She sent me lots of heart emojis so that’s a win, right? :)
Today was a good day.
